Fund For Independent Journalism

What it is: A collaboration between the Alternative Newsweekly Foundation (a 501(c)3 national journalism non-profit) and Monterey County Weekly to provide tax-deductible financial support for local investigative journalism.

What it will do: Fund ongoing reporting in 2021 in the areas of free speech, local economic impacts from the pandemic, government transparency and accountability, affordable housing/transportation, social justice and policing.

Donate to us through the Alternative Newsweekly Foundation to ensure the long-term viability of the independent press in Monterey County, supporting local journalism that is both educational and serves a watchdog function.

Frequently asked questions

How will I receive a receipt for tax purposes?

During our end-of-year appeal starting sometime in November, all tax-deductible donations will be handled through Monterey County Gives! and are subject to their terms of service.

All other times: You will receive an email receipt—for your taxes—from the Alternative Newsweekly Foundation.
